Estartit has for many years been a thriving holiday resort and continues to develop with a number of luxury holiday apartment complexes in the centre of the resort. Sheltered by the Roca Maura Mountain Estartit is built around its quaint marina, making this one of the most popular resorts along the Costa Brava coastline. The views from Estartit are stunning and the beach is one of the best, providing a perfect destination for a holiday. The resort of Estartit itself has a wide range of shops, bars, restaurants and entertainments to suit all ages and tastes. For a more traditional Catalan feel, the church square down to the harbour offers a variety of bars and restaurants offering local cuisine and tapas. Estartit Town Centre has its own tourist information centre with a great selection of guides about Estartit. With many many festivals held throughout the year in Catalunya you will find the local dance of the "Sardanes" a regular feature in the church square. Estartit has a 4 kilometre stretch of golden sandy beach, one of the longest in the Costa Brava, which even in the busiest of seasons, never gets to be full, there is always plenty of space for everyone. You can walk all the way from the town centre along a promenade which stretches past Els Griells on the outskirts of town. The small Marina is very picturesque and home to a number of sailing yachts and a number of boats offering diving holidays and day trips to the Illes Medes and the stunning coastline. It is a lovely walk around the Marina passing the many restaurants serving excellent Spanish dishes, their specialities being fish dishes - (suguet de peix, ‘fritada’, lobster and Begur snails. A long pretty promenade stretches along the front of Estartit - a relaxing place to wander, sit, meet up with friends and benefit from the lovely atmosphere of Estartit.

Just opposite Estartit is the famous Rock, called Illes Medes. A great variety of natural sea life can be found around this Island and it is a well-known ecological reserve. Visitors to the Island find themselves amid the peaceful wonder of a scene which is a lovely combination of the form and colour of the rocks, rich vegetations and the soft gold of the sand contrasting with the splendour of the blue sea. Boat trips, some with clear bottoms, take visitors to and around the Island. L’Estartit is a great place for diving and snorkelling, especially around the Illes Medes. Diving Schools are based in L’Estartit catering for beginners and advanced as well as all other water sports and activities, such as water-skiing, rowing, yachting and fishing.

Inland from L’Estartit are many charming, quaint villages, which are very pleasant to drive to for the visitor with transport. The nearest of these are Torre Vella and Torre Gran just 3km from the town centre, this exclusive area is where most of the luxury villas with private pools are found in the area. Traditional restaurants in gorgeous settings can be found in these villages. 

Just 15 minutes drive away and with a bus service, is the local train station in Facca. Trains regularly run here to Barcelona, journey time is approximately one and a half hours, for a very reasonable fare. The nearest airport for visiting L’Estartit is in Girona itself. Gerona is just a 45 minute drive and is a wonderful city for a day trip, has a lot of history, monuments and attractions. Excellent restaurants and some really good shopping add to a good day out. Within easy driving distance of Estartit you will find 10 championship golf courses. Other activities available include: horse riding, diving, microlight flying, parachute jumping, paint balling, kayaking, hiking, cycling, and sailing.
